The Green Bay Packers start off their season with a bang in Chicago, at Soldier Field. Last night the Green Bay Packers showed all the Illinois folks that they still got it coming away with a 10 to 3 win over the infamous Chicago Bears. This match is 199thmeeting of the two rival teams.
Both teams started off slow with both Quarterbacks Trubisky and Rodgers taking sacks on their first possessions. The first score of the game came from the Bears with 5 minutes to go in the 1st quarter, that however was the only score of the game for the Bears.
Rodgers and the Packers responded swiftly a monster throw down the field for 47-yards to wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling to electrify the Packers offensive line. After this it was an easy three more plays to finish off the drive with a touchdown. Tight end Jimmy Graham puts it away for the touchdown early in the 2nd quarter. This touchdown is the first of the NFL 100th season.
The score remained 7 to 3 for majority of the rest of the game. No score after this in the second or third quarters. The Packers came away with a field goal in the 4th quarter, making the score 10 to 3. The Bears with Mitch Trubisky leading had a chance for a touchdown late in the 4th quarter to tie the season opener, to what looked like a promising drive. However, a late error from Trubisky with an interception to defensive player Adrian Amos took that promise away. This mistake sealed the deal. The Bears did ger one more shot at the goal but couldn’t come away with it.
The interception on top of 4 penalties made by the bears during the game to set up a 3rd and 40 meant the home team couldn’t come away with the win. Both offenses made immense errors, but the Bears seemed to make a couple to many.
LaFleur and the Pack are going to want to clean up their offence, but defensively they looked very strong. The Bears are going to want to the same thing, but there is still a lot of season left.
This nail bitting opener has set the 100th season to be a ripper. Fans can look forward to some amazing football specifically in the defences for both the Packers and the Bears.
