16-Year-Old Gamer Pockets a Massive $3 Million Dollar Prize at Fortnite New York Championships!

2 min read

Fortnite is the most popular video game in the world with over 250 million registered users world-wide. The game is free for all users to play; however, users can use V-Bucks to purchase specific items including weapons and skin to improve their odds of winning. The company Epic Games last year pocketed more than $2.4 billion dollars in revenue. So, it’s no surprise this New York tournament yielded a huge prize pool for all the competitors.

The 16-year-old gamer Kyle Giersdorf took first play in the e-sports tournament over the weekend and not only took home a nice hearty pay check, but also a nice trophy to match. 50 duos and 100 solo players in total competed for a share of the $30 million prize pool. This is the largest prize pool in the history of e-sports.

The star at the centre of this massive weekend in history is Mr. Giersdorf. Who has over 200,000 twitter followers, 140,000 followers on twitch, and 187,000 followers on Youtube.

The game involves 100 players being placed on a virtual island and forced to battle each other until only one remains. It is an extremely addictive game given all its success world-wide and with prize money and rewards like these it would be hard for any parent to complain about to much computer time on any form of video games.

One thing is for certain Kyle won’t be stepping away from the computer anytime soon and looks like his parents will have no complaints. The real question though is what will this fast fingered talented 16-year-old do with all that dough?
